John Milton - Poet and Philosopher
My box shows John Milton, English poet and philosopher of the early sixteen hundreds, writing a poem using a quill pen, much to the dismay of a goose whose feathers are being used. Another Goose above has just escaped with all his feathers in tact - just! The back of the box has an image by William Blake illustrating John Milton's most famous work 'Paradise Lost', the cover of the book and an extract of the verse. The side has information about John Milton after whom the suburb of Milton and Milton Road are named. Above the poem on the back is the bust of John Milton which is in Poet's Corner, Westminster Abbey.
